RCCAO Members Building Critical Infrastructure: Sewer Expansion in York Region
October 20th, 2025 8:17 pm     A+ | a-

Earlier this month, RCCAO Executive Director Nadia Todorova and RCCAO Board Chairman Peter Smith visited the start of a major infrastructure project in the City of Vaughan – the West Vaughan Sewage Servicing Project.

The generational project includes building a new 11-kilometre gravity sewer pipe between Rutherford Road, Highway 27, Islington Avenue and Steeles Avenue West. The sewer pipe will be installed by a tunneling process, with eight construction compounds required along the route.

During their visit, Nadia and Peter viewed the two tunnel boring machines, Chelsea and Maggy, that will dig the tunnels for the new sewer line. They saw firsthand the advanced technical knowledge, precision, and coordination required to operate such complex machinery and manage tunneling operations.

This project will deliver essential wastewater infrastructure, increasing capacity to support Vaughan’s rapid growth and ensure sustainable servicing for its communities. As one of the fastest growing areas in the GTHA, Vaughan requires forward-looking infrastructure to support its continued development.

Special thanks to Tim Cleary, Jeff Reid and the entire McNally team for hosting RCCAO and for their leadership in delivering this foundational work for York Region and the province.
