Critical Infrastructure Work in Action
July 29th, 2024 8:02 pm     A+ | a-
One of the best parts of this job is the privilege and opportunity to get on site and see firsthand the incredible work that the men and women in our industry do to build the critical infrastructure that we all rely on.

On July 29, RCCAO Board Chairman Peter Smith and I visited two construction sites in the region and saw the dedication and hard work of our members.

Our first visit took us to Pearson Airport where Bridgecon is doing an emergency resurfacing for one of the airport’s non-passenger vehicle screening facilities. As part of the project, we were fortunate to witness the continuous concrete pour that the Bridgecon team was doing and all the work that goes into such an essential element of construction, including form setting, placement, pre-finishing, troweling and finishing of the poured concrete.  Everybody on site, including Bridgecon’s Vice President Daniel Alonzi and Site Superintendent Julia Zahreddine, were diligent, safety focused and incredibly welcoming of Peter and me.

Our second visit of the day was in Guelph, and was particularly poignant as Peter and I visited this site almost a year ago to the date. It is incredible seeing the bridge over Highway 6 now completed (we understand that it is going to be open for the public imminently!), the ongoing work on a roundabout close by, which is also going to be ready for public use shortly, and other related construction work, focusing on improving Highway 6. All this work and improvement in that area are laying the groundwork for the Morriston Bypass, which will be critical transportation infrastructure for the area and region. Huge thanks to Julian Lawson and the Dufferin team for the visit and time!

These two projects reflect the critical infrastructure work that takes place daily across the region and province. This work support Ontario’s economic vitality improves our quality of life and builds for the future needs of generations to come. It is imperative that we continue to invest, build and maintain infrastructure in Ontario and continue to lay the foundation for our province’s continued economic development and prosperity.
