Member Moment: HCAT Donates $1 million to Princess Margaret Cancer Centre
Beyond the indispensable work that RCCAO members do to build critical infrastructure for all Ontarians, they are also committed community members who make the time and resources available to help in other ways across the province.
Take the Heavy Construction Association of Toronto (HCAT) and their $1 million donation to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, for example.
The $1-million donation will fund the Focal Therapy Program led by Dr. Sangeet Ghai, Trachtenberg/Haque Chair in Image Guided Prostate Therapy Research and Dr. Nathan Perlis, of Urologic Oncology and Robotic Surgery.
The generous donation was made in honour of Peter and Maureen Smith, the Executive Director of HCAT and his wife. Peter Smith is also currently RCCAO’s Board Chairman.
After committing this large philanthropic donation late last year, earlier this month the group visited Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation’s office to present the cheque to the Foundation’s staff to support the critical work Drs. Ghai and Perlis are doing with their teams at Princess Margaret Hospital.
This donation renews HCAT’s philanthropic commitment to our community and furthers support for the health of Ontarians. Just as their donation to SickKids in 2020 helped build its new hospital in Toronto, this financial contribution to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation will support many in our community for many years to come.
RCCAO is proud of its members and their long-standing commitment and support of invaluable health research.
We hope to continue to see such philanthropic spirit by our industry!
